INTRODUCTION

NoviRad Inc. is a Houston based medical device startup developing percutaneous drainage systems to remove abnormal fluid collections from the body. NoviRad is designing a bedside solution for in-patient care, but would like to explore outpatient solutions

RESEARCHPercutaneous drainage systems involve placing a catheter through the skin to collect infected fluids such as abscesses from the body. When these fluids aren’t properly drained, patients might face sepsis. To prevent this, periodic flushing of drainage bags with sterile saline is required.
THE PROBLEM Current drainage solutions limit the patients’ mobility, making them reliant on nurses and caretakers to swap their bags for them and some patients need to wear these drainage systems for 14 to 28 days.

OBJECTIVE

To design a wearable inpatient solution for NoviRad Inc. for improving the mobility of patients recovering from abdomen infections.
